Professional Experience

Mr. Wang has been practicing law since May 1983 having previously worked at the People's Court in Beijing for three years. From 1983 to 1993, Mr. Wang advised mainly Chinese domestic clients, representing or defending hundreds of civil and criminal cases, thus gaining vast experience in representing clients in litigation cases in China. From January 1993 to December 2004, Mr. Wang practiced law with Jun He Law Office as a senior partner. At the end of 2006,
Mr. Wang founded Runbo Law Firm as a founding partner, and then in 2007, Yi Liu, together with his team from the former Junyi Law Office, merged with Runbo Law Firm. The name of the merged firm is Run Ming Law Office with
Mr. Wang as one of the executive partners.

After joining Jun He Law Offices, which mainly advised foreign clients on Chinese laws, Mr. Wang's work involved providing legal services concerning Chinese laws for foreign companies as well as their invested enterprises in China. His clients are in the main from the United States, Japan, Hong Kong, as well as Europe. Mr. Wang's main practice areas include dispute resolution involving foreign parties (including litigation, arbitration and reconciliation), intellectual property and foreign direct investment (FDI).

Mr. Wang has his own original ideas and vast experience in handling difficult and complicated disputes involving foreign companies. He is good at acting as legal counsel to foreign companies in litigation and arbitration in China and skilful in representing clients in disputes through negotiation by means of reconciliation prior to or during litigation. Most of his cases have involved disputes relating to joint venture projects, product quality, contracts and labour, etc. incurred by multinational companies in the PRC, which often involve complicated interests, unexpected and urgent conflicts. Mr. Wang is extremely capable of making judgments and controlling the situation under pressure. He is always able to provide his clients with an overall analysis of a specific situation as well as the most appropriate solution to the problem, and can lead to a final resolution using his expertise and professional experience in litigation, arbitration and negotiation. He pays special attention to the differences in perspective between China and foreign countries when handling cases. He is able to, with his accumulated experience in representing foreign clients in China, offer foreign clients a thorough explanation and clarification on certain special concepts and situations under the unique commercial environment in China, develop coordination and communication channels between the parties to the dispute, so as to promote mutual understanding between the related parties with a view to reaching final reconciliation. As a result of his efforts many critical issues have been resolved, and many cases which seemed to be in deadlock, settled to his client's satisfaction. Some typical cases he has been involved include, the successful dispute settlement over equity joint venture between JAFCO Investment (Hong Kong) Ltd and Penshibao through negotiation, representing GM in handling litigation with respect to product liability, etc. Mr. Wang's ability to handle pressing and complex problems has been highly praised by clients in the United States and Japan.

Since the middle of the 1980's, Mr. Wang has been representing clients in dispute resolution in intellectual property cases. He is one of the pioneering lawyers in China in the field of intellectual property representing Shuxian Li, the widow of the last emperor of China Puyi, in the copyright infringement case involving The First Half of My Life written by Puyi, which was one of the earliest copyright cases in the PRC. He subsequently represented Walt Disney Company in its copyright infringement claims against Beijing Publishing House - the first intellectual property dispute initiated by a U.S. company in China. Through the years, Mr. Wang has successfully represented a number of multinational companies in the resettlement of disputes in China over intellectual property in the areas of patent, trademark, copyright, and unfair competition, etc. Many cases he has handled were highly influential both in China and overseas. As the trial lawyer, Mr. Wang successfully assisted Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd in winning their trademark infringement case with his in-depth knowledge of litigation, generally recognized as the most influential intellectual property case since China's accession to the WTO in 2001. Recently, Mr. Wang has also represented General Motors Daewoo Automobile and Technology Company Co., Ltd. in an unfair competition case against Chery Automobile Co., Ltd's QQ model. He has also represent Louis Vuitton, Burberrys, Chanel, Prada and Gucci in their trademark infringement claims against Silk Street market in Beijing. These cases drew the attention of the media both at home and abroad as they were regarded as a milestone in the development process of intellectual property protection of China. In addition to handling intellectual property disputes, Mr. Wang works extensively in other matters related to the protection of multinationals intellectual properties in China, including assisting multinational companies in establishing intellectual property protection rules in the PRC; carrying out investigation of intellectual property infringement, participating and assisting in clamping down on counterfeit and poor quality goods. As most intellectual property cases are technically highly specialized, he is capable of organizing lawyers with expertise in specific areas of intellectual property to form a team qualified to provide foreign clients with the complete range of legal services with respect to intellectual property. Due to his outstanding performance in the area of intellectual property, Mr. Wang has been invited to give seminars on intellectual property law in China and abroad to share his experience with foreign and Chinese enterprises.

Mr. Wang has been successful in the area of foreign direct investment. He is qualified, at the preliminary stage of entry into the Chinese market by foreign investors, to provide them with an overall analysis of the framework of Chinese foreign investment laws in connection with the industries and fields the foreign investors intend to engage in, as well as advise them on their investments. This allowed foreign clients to establish a good investment structure in China at the earliest stage. In implementing a project, Mr. Wang often represents his clients in commercial negotiations with their counterparts, communicates with relevant Chinese governmental authorities on certain issues arising from the process of review and approval of investments by such authorities. Mr. Wang understands the concerns and requirements of foreign investors with respect to investment in China, as well as Chinese laws and the local investment environment. Such advantages together with his rich experience in the legal field enable him to propose feasible and practical solutions which can overcome many obstacles and difficulties met in the process, and to assist foreign investors to achieve their investment targets. Having successfully entered into the China market, many of the multinational companies continue to engage Mr. Wang as their legal counsel to advise on legal issues arising in connection with the operation of their enterprises, areas such as foreign exchange, banking, customs, taxes, real estate, trade unions, labour and personnel management, etc. Mr. Wang and the professional team under his leadership are always ready to offer clients accurate, in-depth, and up to date legal research results and responses, which earns him trust and reliance from many foreign investors. Some China offices of certain foreign governments also engage Mr. Wang as their legal counsel.

Mr. Wang is equally highly capable of solving problems when providing foreign clients with general legal advice, which is one of his advantages compared with other Chinese lawyers who advise on foreign investment. He has been providing foreign clients with top quality legal services for over 13 years and has a strong grasp of the cultural background and commercial practices of U.S, Japanese and European enterprises, which enabled him to provide legal services at an international level which multinational companies find satisfactory. Multinational companies engage foreign law firms and their in-house counsels to deal with PRC related legal issues for them. Mr. Wang understands the working concepts and methods of such companies, and has gradually accumulated a vast experience in cooperating with domestic and foreign lawyers alike as well as internal counsels in multinational companies, which is worth Chinese lawyers' reference.

As a senior partner with many years experience in practicing law, often dealing with complex legal issues, Mr. Wang has an outstanding ability to organize lawyers with different specialities to cooperate with each other on a large-scaled project. He is good at organizing many partners and lawyers specializing in different fields to cooperate with one other, organizing and deploying professional personnel according to the special requirements from client and project, to make full use of his team members. Mr. Wang has established a solid system providing legal services with respect to foreign commercial matters based on the advantages of dispute settlement involving foreign parties, intellectual property and foreign direct investment which has earned him a good reputation from foreign investors.
